Many habitat projects benefit riparian areas by restoring wet meadows in sagebrush habitats, slowing the movement of water off of arid rangelands by constructing structures that help to catch and hold runoff, and installing fencing in sensitive riparian habitats to minimize disturbance. In addition, MDF chapters have been leaders in helping to build or maintain artificial water sources in particularly arid locations. By increasing the availability of water on the landscape, we are helping deer and hundreds of other wildlife species, but also improving conditions for native vegetation. These efforts help keep sagebrush rangelands more resilient to fires and drought.
