Ryan Krapp – Regional Conservation Coordinator – Oregon & Washington

Ryan, a native of the Prairie Potholes Region in east-central North Dakota, developed his passion for the outdoors early in his childhood amidst abundant hunting and fishing opportunities. Despite the evolving challenges in wildlife habitat quality, quantity and land accessibility, Ryan’s dedication to conservation remains steadfast.

Educated at the University of North Dakota, he earned both a Bachelor and Master of Science degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Biology, complemented by a Certificate in GIS. Throughout his 20-year professional journey, Ryan has shared his expertise with the North Dakota Game and Fish Department, environmental consulting firms in North Dakota and Washington, as well as conservation land trusts in Massachusetts and Washington.

Ryan’s passion for mule deer and their habitats ignited at the age of 20 when he hunted his first muley in the Badlands of Little Missouri National Grasslands in western North Dakota. Since that pivotal moment in his past, he volunteered his time to the Mule Deer Foundation, serving as a committee member, progressing to the role of chapter chair, and eventually becoming the North Dakota state chair for six years. He was nationally recognized as the MDF Volunteer of the Year and the Field and Stream-Toyota Hero of Conservation in 2014.

Having relocated to the Pacific Northwest in 2017 with his wife and two young boys, Ryan now embraces the joys of fishing, crabbing, and shrimping with his family on the Puget Sound and developed a passion for pursuing the elusive black-tailed deer in the dense forests of western Washington. Now serving full time as the Regional Conservation Coordinator for Washington and Oregon, Ryan is dedicated to connecting people and tirelessly working to conserve and enhance mule deer and black-tailed deer herds and habitats.
