Aaron Swallow – Regional Conservation Coordinator – Western MT & Northern ID

Aaron was born in Columbus, MT, graduated high school from Sitka, AK and went on to graduate from the University of Montana with a B.S. degree in Wildlife Biology. He spent several seasons in Montana and Wyoming working as a natural resources technician for federal and state land management agencies before he got his first permanent job as a wildland firefighter with the U.S. Forest Service based in Encampment, Wyoming, where he learned the importance of properly managed fires on the landscape. He went back to school to earn a master’s degree in Rangeland Ecology and Watershed Management at the University of Wyoming. After graduation, he became the Laramie Ranger District Rangeland Management Specialist where he was given the opportunity to work with grazing permittees and other public lands user groups to find common ground and solutions to contentious issues. He then went to Southern Colorado in 2014 to be the Environmental Manager for the Tercio and Trinchera Ranches where he learned about private lands ranch management. While on the Ranches, Aaron instituted holistically managed grazing programs, riparian corridor and stream improvement projects, native trout restoration partnership projects, carrying capacity and ungulate monitoring projects, and guided archery elk and deer hunts.

Aaron has spent years on various landscapes working to bridge habitat and human needs and understands the need for positive communication followed by sustainable actions. Aaron enjoys everything the outdoors has to offer in his free time, but walking in the woods with his bow is his favorite.
