JOB SUMMARY:

This unique Regional Director position will focus primarily on starting, organizing and executing fundraising chapters along the I-5 corridor in WA & OR, for the newly formed Blacktail Deer Foundation (BDF).

The BDF was formed in early 2025 and is a branch of the Mule Deer Foundation. Black-tailed Deer have been part of the MDF’s mission since its inception in 1988 and BDF chapters will focus on improving the conservation of Columbia & Sitka Blacktail Deer from California to Alaska. MDF/BDF Regional Directors organize local volunteer chapters to hold fundraising events in support of the continued mission accomplishment of MDF, ensuring the conservation of mule deer, black-tailed deer and their habitat.

Although primarily a fundraising position, Regional Directors also represent the organization with many State and Federal agencies, along with other related Conservation groups and events. Additionally, Regional Directors play a role in conservation work or “Boots on the Ground” opportunities.

Regional Directors help to locate and schedule potential conservation projects, acquire needed assets and funding and recruit and lead volunteers to assist in executing the work. A thorough understanding of MDF/BDF programs and conservation efforts is critical.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Prepare annual budget projections, maintaining a consistent net increase growth year after year.

• Develop, organize, train and guide chapter committees with the planning and execution of successful fundraising events, including virtual event opportunities, while effectively developing and sharing new fundraising ideas to help meet annual budgets.

• Work closely with Chapter Committees to ensure effective event planning,(merchandise, venue, etc.) and subsequent event reporting (preliminary and final financial reporting) consistent with MDF established practices and procedures.

• Complete and submit in a timely manner, all forms and reports regarding chapter development, event planning and event reporting as outlined in MDF’s processes and procedures.

• Engage with State Chairs and Chapter Committees to recognize volunteer efforts, drive greater awareness of MDF and explore opportunities to expand MDF’s presence.

  • Develop an awareness and understanding of current issues within the wildlife conservation industry and possess the ability and willingness to share this knowledge with others (members, supporters, media, etc.) as needed, in an informative and timely manner.

• Ensure volunteer/chapter compliance with financial policies and operating/reporting procedures, in accordance with both MDF and state requirements relating to gaming and reporting obligations.

• Support the MDF national convention efforts (Western Hunting Conservation Expo), working with the convention team, volunteers, vendors and donors; advise convention team of possible sponsorship opportunities and assist with these opportunities as appropriate.

• Leverage various media platforms (social media, traditional media, speaking opportunities, etc.) to promote MDF/BDF goals, objectives and accomplishments at the state and local levels.

• Submit State Spotlights, News from the Field and related updates for the MDF member magazine and related publications.

• Lead and/or assist in conservation project efforts, identifying and/or initiating, planning and conducting conservation habitat projects.

• Along with State Chair and MDF Conservation Staff, serve as co-chair of respective Project Review Committee(s) (PRCs) and the related Chapter Rewards program to recommend strategic conservation projects for funding.

• In consultation with MDF leadership, be prepared to address issues regarding MDF/BDF activities, programs and policy positions as situations arise.

• Inform Senior Regional Director on all pertinent matters in a timely manner.

• Submit ad hoc reports, as requested from time to time by the Senior Regional Director or other management team members, in a thorough and timely manner.

• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Non-profit fundraising experience preferred

• Sales and/or strong customer service experience

• Must reside and be established living in Oregon or Washington, preferably Western half of the state.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Oracle or other CRM applications and social media platforms (Facebook and Instagram)

• Team oriented and self-motivated with a strong work ethic. Strong attention to detail with an ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities.

• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

• Authorization to work in the United States and not require work authorization sponsorship by our organization.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate’s degree or higher preferred

• Passion for the conservation of mule deer, black-tailed deer and their habitat, and a commitment to the MDF’s mission and values.

PHYSICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.

• Must be able to work at a computer terminal for extended periods and walk, stand or sit for intervals of two or more hours, both indoors and out in the field.

• Ability to work any day of the week, including Saturdays and Sundays.

• Some Travel is required.

• Must be able to work late nights and be willing to stay overnight away from home when required.

• Ability to sit for extended periods in a car or on an airplane.”

Location:

Regional Director will reside in the state of Washington or Oregon – preferably Western half of the state.

Salary/Benefits: $65,000 annual salary, with a comprehensive benefits package, 401(k), and opportunities for salary increases and annual performance-based bonuses.
