Corporate Leadership in Conservation: Savage Arms Invests in the Future of Mule Deer
Out West, water is life. In the high desert, it can mean the difference between a herd that thrives and one that struggles to survive. For mule deer navigating drought, development, and long migration routes, a single reliable water source can change everything.
That’s why Savage Arms has chosen to step forward to join the Mule Deer Foundation and its federal and state agency partners as a steward of conservation.
Across the Great Basin Desert of southern Idaho, the land stretches wide and dry. In this rugged country, wildlife guzzlers, simple but critical water catchment systems, can sustain entire herds. Through its partnership with the Mule Deer Foundation (MDF), Savage Arms is helping to restore and install these lifelines on the landscape. This spring, brand-new guzzlers will help sustain a stronghold for Idaho’s mule deer. When summer heat bears down and water grows scarce, hundreds of deer will rely on those quiet, steel catchments.

Farther south in southwest Wyoming, the stakes are even higher for one of the great wildlife migrations on the continent. There, mule deer embark on one of the longest documented migrations in North America. It’s a journey of up to 150 miles each way between sagebrush country to Rocky Mountain forests. Along that route, water can determine whether deer successfully complete their trek or falter along the way.
In partnership with the Rock Springs Grazing Association and the Mule Deer Foundation, Savage Arms has supported the repair and reinforcement of multiple critical guzzlers scattered across public lands in this vast high desert. These water sources sustain not only mule deer, but pronghorn, elk, and sage-grouse; species that define the Western landscape.

Savage Arms understands conservation isn’t just about heritage. It’s about responsibility. The same wildlife that shapes our hunting traditions and outdoor lifestyle requires active stewardship to remain healthy. By helping move water security from need to reality, Savage Arms is accelerating on-the-ground impact where it matters most.
This is conservation at its best: science identifying the need, public agencies and MDF guiding the work, and private partners like Savage Arms helping to return water to the landscape. When mule deer stop at a restored guzzler or continue their migration because they know water is ahead, that moment exists because of partnership.
By supporting conservation, Savage Arms is helping secure the future for this vanishing icon of the West.
