88 Cents of Every Dollar Goes To Mission Delivery Mule Deer Foundation

Priority Herd and Landscapes

The Mule Deer Foundation’s (MDF) Priority Herds and Landscapes Initiative is a new, science-driven approach to habitat conservation that focuses on the areas where mule deer and black-tailed deer need help the most. Instead of taking on projects opportunistically, MDF now directs resources toward identified herds and landscapes where conservation efforts will have the greatest long-term impact.

Advances in mapping and technology allow MDF to move from traditional observation-based management to data-driven, precision conservation. Priority is given to herds showing population declines, reduced fawn recruitment, or higher mortality linked directly to habitat limitations. This ensures that conservation dollars are invested where they can truly change the future of deer populations.

By aligning with federal land management priorities and state wildlife agency objectives, MDF is building a framework for cross-boundary conservation at an unprecedented scale. With new federal partnerships unlocking record levels of funding, and MDF’s proven track record of delivering results on the ground, this initiative represents the largest conservation opportunity in MDF’s history. Healthy deer herds depend on healthy habitat. Through the Priority Herds and Landscapes Initiative, MDF is ensuring that strategic, science-based habitat conservation will sustain mule deer and black-tailed deer for generations to come.
