The Mule Deer Foundation (MDF) issued its congratulations to Secretary Zinke and offered its help to work with him on the complex conservation challenges found across the West. The following is a statement from MDF President/CEO Miles Moretti about the nomination:
“We thank the Senate for confirming Secretary Ryan Zinke today to lead the Department of the Interior. The Mule Deer Foundation worked with Secretary Zinke when he was serving in the U.S. House of Representatives as the congressman of Montana. As a sportsman and conservationist, Secretary Zinke fully understands the importance of, and the challenges facing, wildlife and public land management. We know that Secretary Zinke will bring his common-sense conservation vision to the Department of the Interior and he will support our public lands legacy and the critical mule deer habitat that it provides. We appreciate his support for funding catastrophic wildfires that have devastated western forests and range lands. We also appreciate his opposition to the sale or transfer of federal lands since these lands are so critical for our wildlife and for hunter access. We look forward to working with Secretary Zinke in his new position.”
