Protecting Public Lands: MDF’s Stand for Hunters and Habitat

At the Mule Deer Foundation, we believe that America’s public lands are the backbone of Western hunting traditions and critical to the conservation of mule deer and black-tailed deer. These lands offer unmatched access for sportsmen and women and provide essential habitat for the wildlife we all care so deeply about.

That’s why we are raising concerns about a provision in the Senate’s reconciliation bill that could mandate the sale or transfer of potentially millions of acres of public land. MDF’s official statement on the matter:

“The Mule Deer Foundation values America’s public lands, essential for our hunters’ access to pursue mule deer and black-tailed deer in the West. We are concerned about the Senate’s reconciliation bill provision mandating that potentially millions of acres would be sold or transferred, as it lacks transparency and public input. We urge a thoughtful, transparent process that safeguards our hunting heritage while addressing land management challenges.”

Any decision that affects the future of our public lands must include transparency, opportunities for public involvement, and a clear-eyed understanding of the consequences for wildlife and hunting access. MDF stands with hunters and conservationists in urging Senators to protect the lands that support our heritage, our economy, and our shared stewardship of wild places.

We will continue to advocate for responsible land management solutions, but never at the cost of losing the places we hunt, hike, and explore.
